We understand that the realm of data protection can appear complex, and we will make an effort to simplify and present the information in a clear and straightforward manner.

We rely on “legitimate interests” as the basis for utilising most personal information, where we carefully assess the benefits to you as our customer and Sight At Home. Please be assured that we prioritise your privacy rights and take steps to ensure that the advantages of using your personal information outweigh any privacy concerns.

Where its appropriate to do so, we will ask for your consent to ensure we are clear on your choices. We may also use information to fulfil a transaction or contract – for example if you purchase glasses, we’ll handle payment information and address details.

We might need to pass certain information on to the NHS if we find that you need additional treatment or advice, we’ll mostly do this after talking this through with you. In rare and serious cases this might be done to protect you (where necessary to safeguard your well-being and vital interests).

Adhering to the law is essential, and certain situations may demand us to share information with statutory partners and Ombudsman. These designated organisations, such as the Police or the General Optical Council, hold official authority for such purposes.

From time to time, we may carry out public tasks on behalf of the NHS, delivering optical services. This aligns with our legal responsibilities under various acts, including the Opticians Act 1989, the NHS Act 2006 and the Health & Social Care Act 2012. Rest assured that we will handle your information in compliance with Data Protection Laws.

Whenever we have utilised your information based on legitimate interests and consent, you can usually exercise your right to opt-out by simply emailing us.

However, there might be instances where we are required to retain certain information. This is explained in the ‘information we keep’ section of our policy.

We share your information with the following:

  • The NHS (via referrals and invoicing)
  • Courts and tribunals
  • Optical consultants
  • IT consultants
  • If you make a reasonable request for a copy of the personal data we possess about you, we will gladly provide it. You will have the opportunity to verify that we are processing your data lawfully.
  • You have the right to request us to rectify any inaccuracies in the personal data we hold about you.
  • You can request us to delete your personal data, and if we still happen to hold it without a valid reason, we will promptly delete it upon your request. However, it’s worth mentioning that this is a rare occurrence, as we are diligent about removing data that we are not obligated to retain!
  • You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data, especially in cases where we or a third party are relying on a “legitimate interest.” If you find yourself in a situation that prompts you to object to the processing of your data, you can do so.
  • You have the option to request the restriction of processing for your personal data. This entails asking us to temporarily suspend the processing of any personal data related to you.
  • You have the right to request the transfer of your personal data to yourself or another data controller, provided that the processing is based on consent and is conducted through automated means, and such transfer is technically feasible.
  • You can revoke your consent for processing at any time. We previously discussed this in the ‘opting out?’ section above.
  • You possess the right to contest any automated decision that impacts you. At Sight At Home, we don’t make automatic decisions; instead, we meticulously consider and reach decisions about you and your information.

We keep your personal data for as long as we have to and always do this in line with data protection laws. We don’t want to keep your data any longer than we need to!

We store information securely, we mainly keep this digitally on our protected devices, we may also keep paper records for a certain period of time but don’t worry we’ll keep these secure as well.
